By now you're deep in thought about advent and how to tell this story, one more year, in a relevant and meaningful way. I never found the Christmas story hard to tell, but I did find it difficult to find ways to share it so it didn't sound like the same....again. But maybe that's the beauty of the birth of Jesus, it never gets old and it is a story we need to be reminded of often and not just at Christmas time. As a kid I loved gathering around the table with my family and listen to them tell the story of our family over and over again. So maybe retelling the story needs to stay somewhat the same so we never let the power of the birth of the Savior be diminished in the hearts and minds of the people we serve.
The tree is up, the lights are on, the house is beginning to feel like Christmas. Some are waiting for family to arrive, baking to begin, presents to wrap, shopping to stop and whatever else gets your attention this season. Ask God to show you a way to retell the story in a fresh and compelling way that will leave the people you serve amazed and your heart strangely warmed at the wonder of the birth of Jesus.
Couple of things: South Flint and Flint New Life will both be pastored by Rev. Bob & Tina Cattane beginning the first of January. This concept of one pastor for two churches was overwhelmingly accepted by the South Flint congregation. They are excited to begin the new journey. Keep Bob & Tina along with both churches in your prayers.
Also, keep Rev Wayne & Debbie Brown in your prayers in the loss of Debbie's dad, Rev. Norman RIckey. He was a beloved pastor who impacted so many lives with the good news of the gospel.
Hope to see you tonight!
