Prayer is vital for Christ's
disciples, and for growing the Kingdom.
Eastern Michigan District Pastors
have been uniting for prayer collectively, and there are opportunities for our laity to pray collectively
too [in addition to local church prayer meetings].
In the days ahead specific times
will be given when youth and adults can join with others for concentrated times
of prayer.
The first of those dates relates to
the youth on our district: Wednesday, September 26th, 2012 at 7:00 a.m.
See You at the
Pole [SYATP]
SYATP started in 1990 as a grass
roots movement with a few students in Burleson, Texas who felt compelled to
pray at three different school flagpoles. From there the challenge was issued
to students throughout Texas to meet at their flagpoles for prayer
simultaneously, and the concept ballooned from there. Today that number has
grown to 3 million students in the U.S. and there are also students in 20 other
countries that participate, making it an international prayer movement among
young people.
See you at the pole is a prayer
rally - not a formal event. Some students pray verbally and some silently,
while other students sing songs of praise, and still others read from the
Bible. It's a time for students to lift up their friends, families, teachers,
school, and nation to God.
The theme for 2012's See You at the
Pole, is "Awaken", based on Ephesians 3:14-21, "For this cause I
bow my knees unto the Father... I pray that out of His glorious riches He may
strengthen you with power through His Spirit in your inner being so that Christ
may dwell in your hearts...And I pray that you...grasp how wide and long and
high and deep is the love of Christ, and...that you may be filled to the
measure of all the fullness of God. Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably
more than all we ask or imagine...".
What an excellent way to profess
faith and belief in Christ. We are hoping many Eastern Michigan teens
participate in this collective prayer gathering.
If so, please share your SYATP
experience with us.
We'd love to hear from you!
